FACTOR® Long Fibre-Reinforced Thermoplastics

Producer: Celanese
Polymer type LFC

At the beginning of 2010 the Celanese Corporation (Celanese) acquired the German long fibre-reinforced thermoplastics (LFT) compounder Future Advanced Composites & Technology (FACT) from Ravago.

The Factor® long fibre filled thermoplastic product family are manufactured in a patented process in which fibres are completely impregnated in the pellet. This ensures consistently high material quality as well as the excellent product properties of Factor® LFT.

General info

Factor® LFT offers:

  • Outstanding strength and stiffness
  • Very high impact strength
  • Excellent temperature stability

Typical Factor® applications:

These variations in composition allow customising of the properties of Factor® LFT to accommodate highly specialised applications – depending on customer wishes and requirements. It is particularly suitable as a long glass fibre concentrate for example for structural components like front ends or underbody panels in automobile construction.

The high temperature stability of the material, the excellent mechanical properties, ease of processing as well as the low weight make Factor® products outstanding for replacing metals – even in the automotive industry. The numerous applications for Factor® LFT include for example the construction of instrument panel supports, underbody panels or crash-active headrests.

Portfolio

Factor® LFT portfolio:

The broad Factor® LFT product portfolio comprises glass, aramid and carbon fibre-reinforced polypropylenes, polyamides as well as numerous other specialties based on other matrix and fibre materials.

Long glass fibre-reinforced polypropylenes from Factor® are available with glass fibre contents from 10 to 60 percent; Celanese delivers long glass fibre-reinforced polyamides in this brand with a glass fibre content of between 20 and 60 percent.

Factor® concentrates contain 60 percent glass fibres; due to higher content of additives and auxiliary materials it can be mixed with non-reinforced polypropylene to the fibre content required for the component.

Celanese also provides low-emission, impact modified, UV-stabilised and friction/wear optimised Factor® LFT grades.
