Impet® is the Celanese trade name for injection mouldable glass fibre filled thermoplastic polyester based on polyethylene terephthalate (PET).
Like its chemical cousin PBT, Impet® (with PET base resin) has outstanding physical properties and superior thermal and chemical resistance, with the added ability to support higher temperature exposure.
General info
Impet® offers:
- High rigidity and hardness
- Very good creep strength
- Paintable surface
- Good friction and wear properties
- High chemical resistance and weathering resistance
Some advantages over PBT are:
- Higher mechanical strength at room and elevated temperatures
- Higher heat deflection temperature
- Higher continues service temperature
Typical applications of Impet® PET
The specific material properties of glass fibre filled PET makes Impet® an excellent choice for larger parts such as automotive grill opening retainers, but smaller parts also use Impet® PET. Examples include windshield wiper brackets, throttle body covers and air-conditioning and heater duct doors.
Due to its high rigidity at high temperature, Impet® PET can also find applications in the functional parts of electric irons, microwaves and extractor hoods.
Portfolio
All Impet® grades contain glass fibres.
Most commonly used are the Impet® 2700 GV1/30, a PET with about 30% glass and Impet® 2700 GV1/45, a PET with about 45% glass.
